I’m Patricia de Gutierrez, a member of IBNE since it first started in October 2000. I had been saved six years before in August of 1994 and since then I’ve been reading the bible with a thirsty heart, thirsty for learning directly from the voice of God and listening to God’s will. During those first six years as a Christian I was not attending church because the past church I used to go to no longer satisfied me because I could tell from my daily reading that the messages were not exactly what I had been reading in the bible and also not all members of my family were ready to accept going to a Christian Church. This issue was a strong prayer I presented to my Lord: to give me a good church where all of my family would accept to go, but also a church where the messages were true as the bible, the word of God.
God answered my prayers by letting me meet Jim and Kathy Mehl in 1999. They were the parents of Hillary, a good friend at Kindergarten of my youngest daughter, Sofia. During the school’s fieldtrips Kathy and I got to make a good friendship and we both identified ourselves as Christians. Later, both our families would very often get together for dinner or going to the beach.
Jim and Kathy later shared their mission: they were here in El Salvador to establish a Baptist Church. They invited my husband, Douglas, and me to be part of it and we both accepted and it has been our church since the very first day it was founded. I thank God for answering my prayer and giving me and my family a good church where the authority is the word of God.
